Home-Educated Forest School Group in Batheaston, Bath

A nurturing outdoor learning group for home-educated children aged 4–8 years (younger siblings are welcome). Our sessions take place in Batheaston, near Bath, during term time on Thursdays from 12–2pm.

This group supports children in early childhood to develop a sensitive, compassionate, and cooperative relationship with each other and the natural world through regular contact with woodland and outdoor environments.

A Holistic Approach to Outdoor Learning

Our sessions combine principles of Waldorf pedagogy and Forest School practice, offering a rich, child-centred experience that supports the whole child.

Learning is approached holistically through:

  • Hands – learning by doing, practical exploration and creativity
  • Heart – emotional development, relationships and social understanding
  • Head – curiosity, thinking skills and intellectual development
  •

This balanced approach encourages children to learn in a natural, meaningful and developmentally supportive way.

Child-Led Learning in Nature

Each session blends adult-guided experiential activities with child-led free play.

The role of the adult is to observe, support and gently facilitate, allowing children to follow their own interests, build confidence, and develop skills at their own pace.

Experiential learning in nature is at the heart of everything we do, creating a learning environment that is both engaging and motivating for children.

Building Connection, Confidence and Community

Our aim is to support children to:

  • Build a deep connection with the natural world
  • Develop confidence and independence
  • Form meaningful and positive relationships with peers
  • Explore curiosity through outdoor play and discovery
  • Grow emotionally, socially and creatively

The woodland environment provides a calm, safe and inspiring space for children to thrive.
